Julian says that he is not a political rapper, and he doesn’t really keep up with current
events, but in this song Julian focuses on some modern day problems that the world
is up against. In this song you can see the impact of artists such as Nas, Tupac, Talib
Kweli, and Mos Def. Julian explains that he has a hard time actually figuring out who
the opposition is. In these times we have leaders that act as if they are helping us, but
really aren’t. Even though we are faced with these struggles, Julian lets the people know
that “they can take our freedom but cant limit the mind” telling us that knowledge is
power and we are still capable of doing great things regardless of the corruption going on.
